Live Wirral Community Awards 2008

A number of Wirral residents living in the Housing Market Renewal (HMR) areas of the borough have been recognised for their tireless efforts in serving their communities.

Birkenhead, Tranmere, Rock Ferry and Wallasey are all undergoing massive change as part of the HMR programme in Wirral and the aim of the Live Wirral accolades was to thank community organisations and representatives who have been working hard to make a real difference to the community during this often difficult time.

The public nominated individuals, projects, groups and organisations which have helped to support the Birkenhead, Tranmere, Rock Ferry or Wallasey communities, over the last few years.

It was the second time the awards have been held and Pauline Davis Managing Director of NewHeartlands - one of the partners involved in the event under the Live Wirral umbrella - said: "I was very proud to be able to honour these people who work so hard within their communities, voluntarily, for the greater good. We couldn't complete the amount of work we have done without the support and help of the residents within these neighbourhoods and I'm delighted that they have been publicly recognised for the commitment and dedication they show."

Chris Bowen the Housing Market Renewal manager for Wirral Council - another of the Live Wirral partners said: "It's been extremely rewarding to be able to give something back to the communities that give so much of their time and effort on our behalf. We have residents who work in all areas of the community and would be lost without them. They are the unsung heroes of regeneration in Wirral."

The event which was held at Pacific Road Arts Centre involved residents from across all of the HMR areas in Wirral.
