Excellent Homes, Great Lifestyles
Excellent Homes, Great Lifestyles
Recorded crime on Wirral is down and at its lowest level since 2001. Robberies are down and there have been fewer victims of violent crime compared to previous years. House burglaries have reduced - meaning fewer homes broken into and levels of anti-social behaviour are down. This is testament to policing on Wirral but also a reflection of relationships with partners and the wider community.
A multi-agency approach has been adopted to tackle Crime and Anti Social Behaviour (ASB). Initiatives include Joint Agency groups (JAGs) and at a more local level Problem Solving Groups (PSGs) and Neighbourhood Action Groups (NAGs).
Wirral is one of 40 national 'Respect Areas'. This Government agenda aims to tackle underlying causes of anti-social behaviour by early intervention and broadening efforts to address problems.
Housing Associations in Wirral have signed up to the RESPECT Standard for Housing Management. Wirral HMRI funds an HMRI Anti-Social Behaviour Officer and two officers from the Youth Respect Team, specialising in Community Engagement. They work with communities to educate and inform about playing a part in tackling the causes and effects of ASB.
Live Wirral Wardens work with Wirral's Anti-Social Behaviour Team, providing support and signposting to the community. They are based at Live Wirral Community House in Laird Street, Birkenhead.
The Community Mobile Police Station was introduced in Wirral, in
January 2006. The unit has a public enquiry desk, CCTV equipment,
crime prevention displays and a wide range of literature for
community safety, support groups and local
activities.A meeting area can be used for a wide range of
activities, such as meetings, workshops and group sessions.
Plans are underway to build a Police Command Centre in North Birkenhead on the cleared site of the Rivers estate. Significant investment has made in the Custody Suite in Birkenhead.
